Communication Technologies [CDMA,GSM,3G,TCP/IP,WIRELESS]

Introduction
Commucation technology allow users to participate in a rapidly changing world in which work and other activities are increasingly transformed by access to varied and developing technologies.

Terminology

Communication technology are developing to be more sophisticated following the age nowadays making it possible to threat among others technology.

For this topic we are going to disccuss 5 communication technology. Such as;

· CDMA
· GSM
· 3G
· TCP/IP
· Wireless

CDMA

Code division multiple access or CDMA is a channel access method utilized by various radio communication technologies.

Channel access method allows several terminals connected to the same multi point transmission medium to transmit over it and to share its capacity.
CDMA scheme is based on spread spectrum. An example is the 3G cell phone system.[Spread Spectrum = using signal]
CDMA also use concepts for sharing bandwith of different frequencies , called multiplexing.

An analogy to the problem of multiple access is a room(channel) in which people wish to communicate with each other. CDMA is analogous to the example where people speaking the same language can understand each other, but not other people. Similarly in radio CDMA, each group of users is given a shared code.

IS-95 is the first CDMA based digital cellular standard pioneered by Qualcomm. Regularly called as CDMA One , IS-95 is also known as TIA-EIA-95. For the latest are now CDMA 2000

It’s a 2G mobile telecommunications standard that uses CDMA , a multiple access scheme for digital radio.
In this case CDMA permits several radios to share the same frequencies. All radios can be active all the time , because network capacity doesn’t directly limit the number of active radio.

GSM

GSM which stands for Global System for Mobile Communications is the most popular standard for mobile telephone systems in the world.

GSM differs from its predecessor technologies in that both signaling and speech channels are digital , and thus GSM is considered a second generator mobile phone system.

GSM which invented by CEPT[European Conference of postal and telecommunications administrations in 1982 (code name Grouple special mobile) by europian are also the pioneer of low cost implementation of the short message service (SMS).

GSM is a celullar network which means that mobile phones connect to it by searching for cells in the immediate vicinity(catching signals).

A Cellular network is a radio network made up of a number of radio cells(or just cells) each served by at least one fixed –location transceiver known as a cell site or base station. These cells cover different land areas to provide radio coverage over a wider area than the area of one cell.

GSM is also the pioneer of SIM *Subscriber identity Module , commonly known as a SIM card . The SIM is a detachable smart card containing the users subcription information and phone book. Alternatively , the user can also change operators while retaining the handset simply by changing the SIM. Some Operators will block this by allowing the phone to use only a single SIM , or only a SIM issued by them; this practice is known as SIM locking and is illegal in some countries.

3G

International mobile telecommunications-2000 (IMT-2000) , known as 3rd generation or simply 3G , is a family of standards for mobile telecommunications defined by the International telecommunication Union, Which includes variaty of standards (GSM EDGE ,CDMA2000,etc)

To compare its predecessor , 3G allows simultaneous use of speech and data transfer at higher data rates up to 14 mbit/s. Thus , 3g networks enable network operators to offer users as a wider range of more advanced services (such as internet) while achieving greater network capacity through improved Spectral efficiency.

Spectral efficiency refers to the imformation rate that can be transmitted over a given bandwith in a specific communication system.

The bandwith and location information available to 3g Devices gives rise to applications not previously available to mobile phone users. Some of the applications are:

· Mobile Tv.
· Video on demand.
· Internet.
· Location based services.
· Video conferencing.

TCP/IP

Transmission Control Protocol / Internet Protocol is a communications protocol developed by US department of defense to network the system. TCP/IP which is a de facto unix standard is the protocol nowadays of the internet and the global standard for local area networks and wide area networks , the major exception being the traditional networks of the telephone companies. However , telephone companies that deploy voice over IP network are , in fact , using TCP/IP as well.

TCP/IP uses the client server model of communication in which a computer user (a client) requests and is provided a service by another computer in the network.

TCP/IP communication is primarily point to point , meaning each communcation is from one point to another point or host computer(client and host).

Every node in a TCP/IP network requires an IP address ( an internet protocol) which is either permanently assigned or dynamically assigned at startup.

TCP/IP is a routable protocol , and the IP “ network” layer in TCP/IP provides this capability. The header prefixed to an IP packet contains not only source and destination addresses of the hosts , but source and destination of the networks they reside in. Data transmitted by the protocol can be sent to multiple networks within a LAN or WAN around the globe via the internet , the world’s largest TCI/IP network.

Wireless

Wireless Communication is the transfer of imformation over a distance without the user of wires. The distances involved may be short or long. When the context is clear , the term is often shortened to ‘wireless’. Wireless is generally to be a branch of telecommunications.

It encompasses various types of fixed , mobile , and portable two-way radios , cellular telephones , PDA , and wireless technology. Other examples of wireless include Global positioning system , wireless remote control , and other gadgets.

The term ‘wireless’ has become a generic and all-encompassing word used to describe communications in which waves or some other signal transfer to carry an information to the entire communication path.

The world first wireless telephone occured in 1880 and now it evolve into many applications of wireless technology.

Such as :
· Television Remote technology(generally infra red)
· Cellular telephony
· Wireless fidelity (WI-FI)
· Wireless energy transfer(solar satelite)
· Computer interface devices (such as bluetooth)

CONCLUSION

Those 5 technologies that we are talking about are intertwine with each other. GSM CDMA and 3G are none other have the same aspect in the mobile telecomunication meanwhile TCP/IP and Wireless have important role within mobile telecomunication as well.

Mainly if we talk about those 5 technologies they have the same common ; internet and mobile.

GSM , CDMA and 3g are classes or ways to develope telecommunication meanwhile TCP/IP are a protocol to nofity and to network each other while wireless are the technology that support it to makes things easier.
